By design or accident, you have arrived at the Donovan's Brain information site. This Montana based recording workshop was formed as a reply to the anyone can start a band philosophy found in the mid 80's local Bozeman band scene. Donovan's Brain first entered your consciousness in 1994
when they appeared on the premier edition of the Hit The Hay compilation. The path the band has followed over the next two decades has been as complex and unexpected, much like the modern psychedelic sounds they create.
The one constant since the inception of Donovan's Brain has been instigator, Ron Sanchez. Along with co-conspiritor, Colter Langan, the Donovan's Brain universe has expanded to include a star cluster of talent. The current recording group is staffed by Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman) and Bobby Sutliff (The Windbreakers) and longtime drummer extraordinaire Ron Craighead. Over the past 15 years, Donovan's Brain has been joined in the studio and on stage by members of The Young Fresh Fellows, Help Yourself, The Idle Race, Plummet Airlines, and the Nomads. Donovan's Brain also serve as the Career Records house band, having recorded with Deniz Tek, Angie Pepper, Roy Loney, The Plaintiffs, Penny Ikinger and Richard Booth.
A trip around this site will reveal some of the answers you might be looking for about Donovan's Brain. CDs and vinyl are available at the Career Records Shop. You can also purchase cds and downloads from CD Baby, iTunes, Get Hip and other fine retailers.

At the end of 2007 Colter and I decided we were going to start work on the new Donovan's Brain record. A look back reveals that we have not been idle since the release of A Defeat Of Echoes back in the spring of 2005. Work on that one was begun just a couple of months after the release of Great Leap Forward. The same week Echoes was released, Ron Sanchez was in Seattle starting work on Roy Loney's Shake It Or Leave It. The next two and a half years were dedicated primarily to that very important recording.
Work on the new album, Fires Which Burnt Brightly is now rounding the far turn, and work has begun on the art work. The Donovan's Brain web site was originally built by Julian Gough for the Brain. In recent times it's suffered from neglect due to the other more pressing matters. For the moment, the links take you to the old pages. As time permits, the site will be rebuilt and updated.
For now, you might want to visit the Career Records site for news and updates. The news page will always announce changes to the Donovan's Brain site. Expect to see more music added here soon.
The new album is scheduled for release at the end of summer, 2009. At the moment everything is on track to meet all deadlines.
