Donovan's Brain

The new Donovan's Brain album, Fires Which Burnt Brightly was release on October 20, 2009. You can buy it from Career Records, iTunes, CD Baby, or your local indie records shop. The response has been very favorable, calling it the best so far.

On the heels of the release of Fires Which Burnt Brightly, Donovan's Brain are featured in the radio documentary, Where The DJ's Roam. Donovan's Brain supplied music for the soundtrack as did The Armchair Explorers and Penny Ikinger. Several songs from the film, and a short trailer can be found on the page mysteriously titled Lost Weekend, in the History Department. Career Records is the exclusive source of the DVD.

Donovan's Brain and the experimental side project, The Armchair Explorers spent the Winter recording new music for BridgerBowl.com ski film of the day. You can hear and see the resutls here. Other film and TV projects are in the works. Work on the follow up to Fires Which Burnt Brightly has begun, with several song written. Exploritory recording sessions are currently underway.

By design or accident, you have arrived at the Donovan's Brain information site. This Montana based recording workshop was formed as a reply to the anyone can start a band philosophy found in the mid 80's local Bozeman band scene. Donovan's Brain first entered your consciousness in 1994 when they appeared on the premier edition of the Hit The Hay compilations. The path the band has followed over the next two decades has been as complex and unexpected, much like the modern psychedelic sounds they create.

The one constant since the inception of Donovan's Brain has been instigator, Ron Sanchez. Along with co-conspiritor, Colter Langan, the Donovan's Brain universe has expanded to include a star cluster of talent. The current recording group is staffed by Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman) and Bobby Sutliff (The Windbreakers) and bassist Bob Brown. Over the past 15 years, Donovan's Brain has been joined in the studio and on stage by many of our friends: Jason Lytle, The Young Fresh Fellows, and members of The Posies, Help Yourself, Man, The Idle Race, Plummet Airlines, and the Nomads. Donovan's Brain also serve as the Career Records house band, having recorded with Deniz Tek, Angie Pepper, Roy Loney, The Plaintiffs, Penny Ikinger and Richard Booth.
